We are excited to share this month's advice, tips, and tricks for efficient summer watering.

1. 1. Water Deeply but Less Frequently
Instead of light daily sprinkles, water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of your pots. This encourages roots to grow deeper, making plants more resilient to dry spells and heat, and reducing overall water waste.

2. Water Early in the Morning
The best time to water is in the early morning. This allows the water to soak into the soil before the sun gets too intense, minimizing evaporation and ensuring your plants have access to moisture throughout the hottest part of the day.

3. Use Mulch to Retain Soil Moisture
Apply a 1-2-inch layer of organic mulch (such as straw, shredded leaves, or wood chips) over your container soil. Mulch acts as a protective barrier, keeping the soil cooler, reducing water evaporation, and suppressing weeds that compete for moisture.

4. Check Soil Moisture Before You Water
Don't water on a rigid schedule. Instead, feel the soil about an inch or two down with your finger. If it feels dry, it's time to water. This prevents overwatering, which can lead to root rot, and ensures you only water when your plants truly need it.

Whether it’s through planting native flowers or learning sustainable watering techniques, City Blooming is here to support you every step of the way.
