We are excited to share this month's advice, tips, and tricks for Succession Planting & Mid-Summer Care

1. Stagger Plantings for Continuous Harvests
Instead of planting all your vegetables at once, sow small batches of quick-growing crops (like lettuce, radishes, or bush beans) every 2-3 weeks. This "succession planting" ensures a steady supply throughout summer and early fall, maximizing your limited urban garden space.

2. Replenish Nutrients in Busy Containers
Mid-summer is a peak production time, and containers can quickly deplete their nutrients. Apply a balanced liquid organic fertilizer every 2-4 weeks to heavy feeders like tomatoes, peppers, and leafy greens to keep them thriving and producing.

3. Harvest Regularly to Encourage More Growth
Frequent harvesting of fruits, vegetables, and herbs isn't just for eating; it also signals to the plant to produce more. Picking ripe produce prevents plants from "going to seed" prematurely and keeps them in a productive vegetative state.

4. Pinch Back & Prune for Bushier Plants and Better Yields
For many herbs and some fruiting plants (like basil, marigolds, or indeterminate tomatoes), pinching off the growing tips encourages bushier growth and more flowers or fruits. Remove any yellowing leaves or spent blooms to direct the plant's energy towards new growth.

Whether it’s through planting native flowers or learning sustainable watering techniques, City Blooming is here to support you every step of the way.
